Criminal increase

A vehicle is Nutwood Close, Brockham was damaged between 22nd December 2004 and 23rd December 2004.

A house in The Borough in Brockham was the subject of criminal damage on 24 December. It's believed that the damage was possibly caused by a pellet.

There has also been a bizarre incident of criminal damage in The Walled Garden area of Betchworth where shoes laces on shoes left outside premises have been cut.

Please call me if you have any information on either of these incidents.

There has also been a spate of criminal damages in Leigh and Charlwood areas. Anyone with information on this is asked to call PC Vaccaro.

Burglaries rise

The first two months of last year saw a rise in the amount of dwelling burglaries most of which involved windows and doors being forced and or glass being smashed.

Please ensure all properties are left secured and valuables left out of sight. Security devices can be installed to provide a deterrent.

There was a burglary in Pointers Hill, Westcott just recently. Anyone wishing advice on security matters is asked to call PC Mike Bessent on 01306 676823.

General crime reduction advice can be got from PC Mike Bessent on 01306 676823.

Distraction burglary offence in Caterham area.

Two offenders called at the home of an elderely victim an said they were neighbourhood watch officers. They barged their way into the home talking very quickly all the time; stating that the victim had been burgled and they needed to check the house.

Once upstairs they asked the victim to check her money. Once they have seen where it was they ushered her out of the room. One of the males stole bank cards and a tin with money.

They then left.

The first offender was described as male, thickset, did most of the talking, no particular accent, aged approximately 30 to 40 years, fair haired, approximately 5ft 8", light shirt, light trousers.

The second male was smaller than the first and slimmer possibly younger, dark hair.

Two men had called at the address a few days before Christmas stating they were from neighbourhood watch but had been refused entry. Similar descriptions.

Dogs out of control

There has been an increase of offences involving dogs biting other people or worrying livestock. It is the owner/ person in charge of the dog/s to ensure that they are not given the opportunity to carry out such acts.

Poachers caught

This week officers apprehended poachers in the area. Thank you to everyone whose vigilance and continued liaison with police, paid off in this particular instance.

Thefts from outbuildings

A blue transit van index M667MUY has been seen in the general areas of Dorking and surround and may be linked to thefts from insecure/secure outbuildings. If you see this van, please do give us a call either on the non emergency number 0845 125 2222 or 999 if it is an emergency, with any information you have.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all those that completed and returned the questionnaires that were sent out with the last newsletter. We will continue to send them out during the course of the coming year but if anyone would like any more to hand out to others in their neighbourhood then please do not hesitate to contact your local officer.
