Francis
Mountford took away the main prize of a digital Nikon SLR camera
at the awards at Denbies Vineyard on 10 July 2007, with her view
of parishioners leaving South Holmwood Church on Palm Sunday.
The runner up was James Duffy for his photograph of the Stepping
Stones at West Humble.
In the under 17 category, Mark
Richardson took away a 7 mega-pixel Nikon Coolpix compact camera
for his black and white photograph of the ridge along the Chimneypots
walk from Brockham to Betchworth.
Tony Hines was also awarded a
7 megapixel Nikon Coolpix camera for his colourful camera phone
picture of Friday Evening Cricket at the Recreation Ground Brockham.
Finalists were invited to an exhibition
and final judging at Denbies Vineyard.
Judges and local professional
photographers, Jon Gardy and Bob Barlay had the challenging task
of selecting the
final
winners.
Over
two hundred entries were
received from people in and around
Surrey, capturing an extraordinary view of Life in Mole Valley,
from the little known ‘Tapwood Vampires’ to the
tragedy of dead deer at the roadside.
Of course the usual suspects were
there with stunning landscapes, a variety of Mole Valley folk
going about their lives and some
beautiful wildlife photographs.
The competition was sponsored
by the National Lottery and entries submitted in three categories;
Category 1 for over 18’s;
Category 2 for 17 and under and Category 3 for mobile camera
phone users.
“Reducing the entries down
from two hundred to the final 30 was a challenging job and unfortunately
some excellent pictures just
didn’t quite make it,” said Nick Caddick, Chairman
Brockham Green Village Society.
“What is clear from the
competition is that Mole Valley is a varied and exciting region
of the South East, captured so wonderfully
by people from all parts of the County. It has to be said
that digital photography has democratised this stunning art form
and
there are some truly gifted and expressive photographers
who would not have had the opportunity to show their work had
it
not been for this competition.”
