Since qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1985 Susan has worked in the NHS, in major teaching hospitals and the private sector both in the UK and abroad. After further studies Susan gained a post-graduate qualification in musculoskeletal medicine, which she now uses to teach other physiotherapists as well as enhance her own clinical skills. Clinically, Susan specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, such as back and neck pain and sports injuries. Susan has been involved in the treatment of sports injuries at both amateur and professional level.

Susan moved to Brockham five years ago and enjoys working in the area; building close relationships with the local doctors and their patients and tending to her allotment. Appointments can be either in her Dorking clinic, or a home visit can be arranged, if it is more convenient.

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy can help you overcome injuries and disease by correcting and improving the body’s own natural healing mechanisms, allowing you to return to a normal lifestyle after a period of incapacity or injury.

Initial consultation includes taking your medical history, a clinical examination and the agreement of a treatment plan. Treatment may include a range of techniques including passive joint mobilisation, muscle/tissue release/massage, electrotherapy such as Ultrasound and exercise prescription.

Conditions that can be helped by Physiotherapy:

  • Spinal problems – prolapsed discs, facet joint, degeneration, ‘sciatica’, stiff back/neck
  • Joint problems – arthritis, acute sprains, shoulder dislocation, pain/stiffness in any joint
  • Injuries to muscle/ligament/cartilage/tendon
  • ‘Whiplash’ from car accident
  • Work related pain/stiffness from workstation design
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation – After joint replacements/ general surgery
  • Fractures – rehabilitation to return to full function
  • Pregnancy related back pain
  • Neurological conditions – stroke/head injury/Parkinson’s disease
  • Chest conditions – acute infections/chronic airway disease
  • Paediatrics – neurological/orthopaedic conditions
  • Circulatory conditions – cardiac rehabilitation/wound care
