Victorian Fair 2004
‘The
dampness of Glastonbury with the culture of Henley’.
A ‘fair’ summary of the annual Village weekend and
the ‘tented’ Village
was another appropriate description as we sang and danced to fireworks
in the rain.
We do hope all the stallholders
raised funds for Village organisations. The generosity of those
attending and Ruben Bond, owner of the very famous fairground rides
ensured sufficient funds were available to pay for the fireworks
and have enough remaining to plan again for next summer. Congratulations
to Brian Cannon and
his team for keeping the dancers on their feet and everyone involved
in organising the event on your behalf- Brockham does it better,
again.
A great evening and weekend – just what a Village Green
is for!
Tony Hines
Chairman
Brockham Bonfire Ltd
The
frequent showers during the Victorian Fair weekend did not put
off people in Brockham putting on a tremendous effort for the Village
Picnic on Saturday night. The Green was covered with gazebos and
tents of every shape and size. Many people stuck with the original
'picnic concept' with rugs and large umbrellas. No matter what,
everyone seemed to have a splendid time and the atmosphere was
very sociable.
Picnics varied from candlelit tables
to barbeques - and a particular mention must go to the 'hippy
tent' where a fine effort of fancy dress and props was made - although
what was that you were smoking? (Pictures please!)
The fair was very well run as usual
and provided a wonderful warm glow to the
grey evening in front of the Church.
During the day on Saturday the frequent
and heavy rain did not help to encourage a large turnout, but people
tried and supported many worthwhile organisations in doing so.
Thanks should go to all who made
the Victorian Fair and Picnic
Weekend so successful despite the weather and for the hours of
planning and attention that went into ensuring a safe and fun time
was had by all.

Insurance for the weekend will be covered
by Brockham Bonfire ‘s
Public Liability Insurance, which attracts an annual premium of
over £4000. Everyone who ‘uses the Green’ or
participates in any of the activities, including stall holders
will be asked to make a voluntary donation of £1.00 per head
to contribute towards the insurance costs. This will be a one-off
payment, per person aged 12 and over, irrespective of how many
times you visit the fair or Village Picnic over the weekend. We
will rely on your honesty. Without Public Liability Insurance of
this kind, sadly, the Village Green will become unusable
