What is the Brockham Parish Plan?

It is an opportunity for local communities to decide what they would like their village to be like in the short, mediium and long term - this could be 2, 5 and 10 years.

After consultation with all parts of the community, from the youngest to the most senior, an action plan is created after approximately twelve months.

The action plan is used to secure funding from local and national government for the key iterms identified in the action plan.

Some of the items may be relatively easy to fund and addressed in the short term; some mayrequire significant amounts of funding over the long term, but it is important that all of us will be working towards a common goal.

The Parish Plan drives the priorities for community projects and helps influence others such as service providers so that we have a very clear understanding of what we expect from them.

While a Parish Plan has many practical advantages it also has other benefits including an improvement in our sense of community through shared activities, greater understanding and common aims.

The Parish Plan is your legacy for future generations.

Why does Brockham and Strood Green need a Parish Plan?

The Parish Plan is a clear statement of intent to local and national government. This initiative can help influence the nature and quality of local development plans, so it is important that everyone make their views known.

There may be aspects of the parish that you feel need more focus such as more leisure facilities for teenagers, affordable housing or better highways management - it really is a unique opportunity to air your concerns.

Where does the money come from to produce the Plan?

The Government has set aside grants to enable local communities to develop and implement these plans.

Other sources include Mole Valley District Council, Surrey County Council, Defra, local businesses, sponsorship and many others.

Surely the Parish Council should be doing this anyway?

The Parish Council do not have the resource to implement the changes that many people may perhaps wish.

Whie the Parish Plan is run by independent members of the community it is the Parish Council that will take the final action plan to source funds to enable it to be implemented.

How does the consultation with the community take place?

There will be a number of methods, but the main ones will be via a comprehensive questionnaire which will be circulated throughout the parish and through a number of open days.

The results of each consultation will be published in the parish magazine and on the web. A final report will be available at the end of the process.

How long will the development of the Parish Plan take?

It is hoped that the plan can be produced in about twelve months. It all depends on how much YOU participate.

We hope to publish the final action plan and present it to Brockham Parish Council in September 2006, but there is a lot of work to do in the meantime.

How do I get involved with the Parish Plan?

At the most basic level, we encourage everyone to come along to the Open Days and respond to the questionnaires which we will circulate.

If you feel you can contribute more fully to this unique opportunity perhaps as a street warden to distribute leaflets to your neighbourhood or inputting the results of the questionnaire we would love to hear from you.
